In 1925, the Bolshevik authorities closed the Holy Trinity monastery in Slutsk. Its monks moved to the Holy Trinity cathedral. There they began to spread the ideas of the so‐called „Renovationism” — i.e. „Living Church” — a movement considered schismatic by the recently deceased patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church, Tikhon, but supported by the Bolshevik authorities.
Tried to remedy the schism and organized reconciliation meetings. Unsuccessfully. And on 21.08.1926 was arrested by the Russians for the first time.
During the search a poem attributed to Sergei Yesenin, „Reply to Evangelist Demyan” (Demyan had previously published a poem mocking Christianity in the Bolshevik press) was found in his possessions, which led to him being accused of „keeping and disseminating poems with anti–Russian content”.
Prob. held in Slutsk, but released in 1927 — the case was formally closed on 28.06.1927.
In the same month suffered a heart attack that caused paralysis of the left side of his body and partial loss of hearing and speech. Despite this, continued to actively participate, as far as possible, in the life of the Church.
At the end of 1932, another wave of Bolshevik attacks on religion began. On 08.12.1932, the criminal GPU organization carried out a search in his apartment.
Finally, on 16.03.1933, was arrested by GPU agents.
Accused of „leading the Slutsk branch of the counter–revolutionary organization 'Jesuits'”.
Held in prison in Minsk.
During the interrogations was, among others, to state that „even though there is no tsar and there are no kulaks, the Russian Soviet government will never destroy the priests, because even if some are arrested, new faces of priests will emerge from the depths, from the hearts of the people”.
On 09.06.1933, the Russian criminal kangaroo court «GPU Troika» sentenced him to 8 years of forced slave labor in Russian concentration camps.
However, did not reach any of the them. Perished in a Minsk prison.
According to the official entry, „from 29.06.1933 was in the city hospital” and died there of typhus. According to unofficial but eyewitness sources, was murdered by the Russians, among several prisoners, i.e. shot in the forest on the outskirts of the city.
