details of death

During World War I, after the Russian defeat at the Battle of Gorlice in 05.1915, prob. along with millions of Russian officials, teachers, military personnel, etc., i.e. members of the Russian administration in Russian–occupied Poland, left Polish territory and went east, deep into Russia (the so‐called bezhenstvo). Settled in Moscow.

After ordination moved to the Khabarovsk Krai in the eastern part of the Empire. There, after the fall of tsarism in 02.1917 and the Bolshevik coup in 10.1917, after the beginning of the civil war, there were partisan bands roaming around, only partially under the political control of the warring parties in Russia, having a bandit–like character, bent on carnage and robbery. Additionally, the situation was complicated by the limited Japanese invasion that had been ongoing since 08.1918. One of the guerrilla–Japanese clashes took place right next to his parish village.

On Christmas Day 1919, after the Christmas tree celebration at the parish school, kidnapped by a Bolshevik gang. Taken to a frozen river and undressed on a frosty night. Mocked and beaten. Knocked over and stabbed with knives.

The wounded forced to dig an ice hole. Thrown into the river — mockingly was told: „You baptized us, now we are baptizing you”.

Pushed into the water. When tried to get out, his hands were crushed.
