During I World War Russian twice laid a siege of Przemyśl. First time they were unsuccessful. The second siege started on 05.11.1914 and ended on 23.03.1915 when the city fell. Russians turned then to bp Czechowicz with request to make announcement to the faithful about Russian rule. He refused. He also refused to make an address to the Nicholas II, Russian tsar, who visited the city on 26.04.1915. Interned in his bishop’s house perished two days later.
