details of death
During the Austria rule (partitions of Poland), opposed the Germanization of Cieszyn Silesia and, despite pressure, taught Polish children religion in Polish.
On 03.01.1911, three men appeared at his rectory. Opened the office, which two of them entered — the third stayed behind the door. Ordered to raise his hands. Shot in the back. C. 3,000 crowns got stolen — most of them belonging to the Drainage Company, which was the chairman of, and c. 700 crowns of his own savings.
Few days later in a Francis Joseph hospital in Bielsko perished.
The perpetrators were detained. Turned out to be illegal immigrants from the Dąbrowa Basin — from the Rus. Петроковская губерния (Eng. Piotrków Governorate) in the Rus. Царство Польское (Eng. Kingdom of Poland), i.e. from the Russian part of partitioned Poland. They found employment as seasonal workers in the „Silesia” mine. The court, probably due to lack of „evidence” — the investigation was conducted ineptly, as sources say — acquitted them. They immediately fled over to the Russian partition. There are indications that the murder was „commissioned”, and the murderers were socialists who came to get rid of the first parish priest in Dziedzice.
